BIOGRAPHY

Welcome to the electrifying world of Al Kapone, a Memphis music legend whose roots run deep in the heart of a city steeped in musical lore. Raised amid the historic sounds of Stax Records and Hi Records, Al Kapone, also known as Al Kapeezy, has crafted a career that honors the legacy of these iconic labels, shaping a distinctive Southern hip hop sound that emerged in the late '80s and early '90s.

Al Kapone catapulted to global fame with his standout contributions to the soundtrack of the cult classic film, Hustle and Flow. Directed by Craig Brewer and John Singleton, the film featured three of his tracks, including the anthemic "Whoop That Trick," which has become a rallying cry at sports events for the Memphis Grizzlies, the University of Memphis, and beyond. His work earned him a Critic’s Choice Award for the film’s theme song, "It Ain't Over," cementing his reputation as a pivotal figure in the music industry.

His influence stretches far beyond Memphis, with significant contributions to blockbuster hits like Stomp the Yard and Cadillac Records, showcasing talents alongside stars such as Beyoncé. He has also achieved Billboard success with platinum hits like “Snap Yo Fingaz” by Lil Jon and “U and Dat” by E40 featuring T-Pain.

Today, Al Kapone is pioneering an innovative blend of blues and rap, demonstrated in his Blues Rap Mane EP. This fresh sound features collaborations with music greats such as Bobby Rush and Eric Gales, and is available on all streaming platforms. His track "Vice Grip" is already making waves on blues soul radio stations, heralding his tour across the blues circuit.

As one of the first hip hop artists to serve as President of the Memphis Chapter of NARAS (The Grammys), Al Kapone continues to influence the music scene both as a creator and a mentor. His work on the film documentary Take Me to the River and as music executive producer for Memphis Refugee showcase his diverse talents and commitment to his roots.
